SUMMARY:Sonnets for the Muse: Working with Ritual & Poetry to Activate Creative Potential (Edinburgh\, Scotland\, UK)
DESCRIPTION:Sonnets are ‘little songs’. In this workshop you will write a sonnet as a devotional object to your muse. Together we will energize\, celebrate\, honor\, and invoke their creative power.  \nIn Sonnets for the Muse\, a new\, day-long workshop in Scotland (and Amanda’s first offering in the UK!)\, Rebecca Sharp & Amanda Yates Garcia will demonstrate how to fashion the traditional form of the sonnet into radical embodied invocations.  \nOur workshop will take place at the historic Arthur Conan Doyle Centre\, Edinburgh\, UK. We will collaborate with the local ecology and other spirits of place. Our work will investigate cultural\, elemental\, mythological and magical relationships as they interact in the personal and collective realms.   \nCultivating a sense of belonging\, and dialoguing with the ecological and imaginal worlds\, together we will build the tools necessary for these times of profound and urgent change.  \nIn this Sonnets for the Muse workshop you will: \n\npractice an historical poetic form\, the sonnet (no experience necessary\, beginners welcome!) \ngenerate new strategies to work with these enduring vessels of the imagination \ncollaborate\, heal and celebrate the past that still lives inside of you; and use it to seed vibrant\, Venusian futures \ndispel creative blocks \nreclaim joy in your artistic practice \naccess your authentic voice  \n\nParticipants will leave the workshop with their own original sonnet\, and a finely crafted bespoke ritual designed to invoke clarity\, courage\, and creative fire.  \nJoin us to energetically declutter\, access the voice/s of inspiration and create pathways for future work.  \nAcross the full day (with lunch break)\, Amanda and Rebecca will guide a series of connected activities\, including:  \n\nOpening and Closing ritual practice \nmeditation and some light movement for embodied magical practice \ncreative/cultural grounding around historical practices of the sonnet \ntraditional strategies for invoking Muses & Guides \nexercises to identify and engage energies to work with in the session (you may come with some in mind!) \nsupported writing time to create and refine your work \nopportunity to share your work in a supportive environment \n\nThis workshop is a unique collaboration between the two practitioners\, and a unique opportunity to connect with Amanda in-person in the UK.   \nCome raise your voice and energy to celebrate the Muse. Once you know the basics you can use them for anything. Whether or not you “believe” in magic\, candle rituals are a great way to focus your intention\, shift your mood and connect to your sacred practices. Candles are easy to use\, widely available\, and when you light them the atmosphere immediately changes.
