Sonnets are ‘little songs’. In this workshop you will become a soniteer to your Muses by creating devotional objects to energize, celebrate, honor, and invoke their power.  

In Sonnets for the Muse, a new, day-long workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland (and Amanda’s first offering in the UK!), Rebecca Sharp & Amanda Yates Garcia will demonstrate how to fashion these traditional forms into radical embodied invocations. Together, we will revitalize your creative and spiritual practices.  

Our workshop will take place at the historic Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, where we will collaborate with the ecology and other spirits of place. Our work will investigate cultural, elemental, mythological and magical relationships as they interact in the personal and collective realms.  

Cultivating a sense of belonging, and dialoguing with the ecological and imaginal worlds, together we will build the tools necessary for these times of profound and urgent change. 

In our Sonnets for the Muse workshop you will: 

• practice an historical poetic form, the sonnet (no experience necessary, beginners welcome!) 
• generate new strategies to work with these enduring vessels of the imagination 
• collaborate, heal and celebrate the past that still lives inside of you; using it to seed vibrant, Venusian futures 
• dispel creative blocks 
• reclaim joy in your practice 
• dissolve resistant barriers   
• access your full voice  

Participants will leave the workshop with their own original sonnet, and a finely crafted bespoke ritual designed to invoke clarity, courage, and creative fire. 

Join us to energetically declutter, access the voice/s of inspiration and create pathways for future work. 

Across the full day (with lunch break), Amanda and Rebecca will guide a series of connected activities, including:  

• Opening and Closing ritual practice 
• meditation and some light movement for embodied magical practice 
• creative/cultural grounding around historical practices of the sonnet 
• traditional strategies for invoking Muses & Guides 
• exercises to identify and engage energies to work with in the session (you may come with some in mind!) 
• supported writing time to create and refine your work 
• opportunity to share your work in a supportive environment 

This workshop is a unique collaboration between the two practitioners, and a unique opportunity to connect with Amanda in-person in the UK.
